Activity Details

This is a prorated option to participate in Kedamay School.  Led by Cultural Ambassadors - Ruth and Hermela, the Kedamay School will take place each Saturday for 12 consecutive weeks starting  September 19 through December 5

Beginning with a vocabulary lesson, students will work on improving their conversational Amharic and expanding their vocabulary. To further individualize the instruction to meet our students’ needs, students will get into smaller groups to engage in an elective.

The two electives for this semester, Musika and Tarik focus on cultural acquisition through creative activities. Musika will showcase various types of music and cultural celebrations in different Ethiopian ethnicities while Tarik will delve into the history of these regions showcasing famous leaders and members of royal families.

Students will complete a final project and engage in a Jeopardy game to showcase all they learned; the final activity will take place on December 5th.

To augment the learning process, we will be using various online resources like Quizlet, Kahoot, and Google Classroom for practice, progress checks and weekly assignments.

Born and raised in Ethiopia, I am a college student who loves working with children! I enjoy learning languages and served as a translator for Ethiopian Sign Language. I also love dancing and music.

Over the years, I have grown to appreciate the rich beauty of my culture. Helping the kids explore all their wonderful curiosities excites me the most. They ask some amazing questions!
