We are excited to continue another semester of Kedamay School! This is for students who participated last semester, however, if you feel your child has a good beginning understanding of Amharic feel free to join this class. Kedamay/Saturday School is a comprehensive language immersion program geared towards increasing communicative and intercultural competence. Led by Cultural Ambassadors - Kalkidan and Hermela, the Kedamay School will take place each Saturday for 12 consecutive weeks starting February 6 to April 24.
Beginning with a vocabulary lesson, students will work on improving their conversational Amharic and expanding their vocabulary. This semester we will also begin developing sentences utilizing the vocabulary material already covered.
The two electives for this semester, Bahel and Fidel focus on cultural acquisition through creative activities. Bahel will showcase various aspects of Ethiopian culture and traditions, along with exploring the different tribes and regions of Ethiopia. While Fidel will cover the Ethiopian Alphabet which is comprised of 230 letters.
Students will complete a final project and engage in a Jeopardy game to showcase all they have learned; the final activity will take place on April 24th.
To augment the learning process, we will be using various online resources like Quizlet, Kahoot, and Google Classroom for practice, progress checks, and weekly packets.
HI there! My name is Hermela Million. I'm excited to be a part of your journey on Mully Lingua. I teach Amharic language, Ethiopian culture, and history. When I am not sharing and teaching my beautiful culture on Mully Lingua, I like to cook and journal. After immigrating to America at the age of 4, I have grown in a multicultural setting.
